The general appearance of the Brittany is workmanlike, compact, lively and squarely built. They are energetic, intelligent and hunt-point-retriever. Their temperament is affectionate and eager to please. 

The head and skull are medium in length, rounded with the median line slightly visible. The stop is well defined but not too deep. The occiput is not pronounced but can be felt. The muzzle is about two-thirds the length of the skull, tapered but not snippy. The Nostrils are open and well shaped. 

The eyes are expressive, brown to dark hazel, never light or hard in expression and well set in. 

The ears should drop. They are set high, rather short, lightly fringed and vine shaped, and covered by straight hair. They have strong jaws with a perfect regular scissor bite, i.e. Upper teeth closely overlapping the lower teeth and set square to the jaws. The lips are tight, upper lip slightly over lapping the lower. The Neck of medium length, clean and well set on. 

The forequarters are sloping and well set on shoulders. Forelegs are straight with good muscle and are moderately well boned and well feathered.  

The chest is deep, descending to the level of elbow. The ribs are well rounded. The back is short with short and strong loin with slight slope of croup to hindquarters. 

The hindquarters are strong and broad, flanks well rounded with well bent stifles, and hocks well let down and feathered to mid-high.

They have small feet, compact, with a little hair between the toes. The giant / movement is straight and true. 

The tail is naturally short or customarily docked to 10cm (4inches) with a small twist of hair on the end, carried level with the back. 

The coat on the body is rather flat, dense, fairly fine and slightly wavy. 

The colour should be orange/white, liver/white, black/white or roan or any of these colours or tri-colour. The nose is dark in harmony with the coat colour. 

The height is maximum upto 51cms. The ideal height of Dogs: 48-50 cms. (19-20 ins), Bitches: 47-49 cms. (18-19ins). The weight of Dogs: 15kgs (33lbs); Bitches 13kgs (28/5lbs).  

Faults:Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree. 

Note: The males should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
